Are you the artsy, creative type?
I would never put myself in that category. In my head, art and creativity belong to those that actually call themselves artists, not someone like me, who is in the business world. I’ve learned in the past three years that those ideas can actually coexist together; that art and creativity isn’t limited to just those who are talented enough to have paintings hanging in a museum.
One of the things I’ve committed to do in 2013 is to give myself some weekly creative space: time to write, read, and dabble in things like photography and drawing; things I’m not necessarily great at, but enjoy. I’m lucky that a lot of my friends are self-proclaimed artists, so they have been encouraging me, to say the least.
I stumbled across this article awhile back, and thought it was great. If you’re thinking about creativity, then here’s 21 reasons to embrace it.

I wish I were crafty.
I wish I were too! Most of my friends are extraordinarily creative – it can be completely intimidating to hang around people who create cool stuff. Don’t give up, though!
true! i may not have been gifted in the artistic field but it make me feel great whenever im productive or creative. i’ve been doing it for some time now and i can honeslty say that i’m getting better at it everyday!
I agree! There’s nothing better than ‘creating’ something (a meal, a craft, a photograph…whatever), and then being able to step back to say, “I did that!” It’s nice to find that inner artist.
Mandy, thanks for sharing this! Number 6 really rang true with me. I can’t begin to describe the release, freedom, joy that comes from engaging in an act of creating (cooking, painting, crafting, whatever). It’s so vital to our being I think and such a great release and joy…especially during crazy grad school seasons!
